About Commodore 64 Chuckie Egg

Chuckie Egg is a classic Commodore 64 game that first debuted for the ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro, and Dragon 32/64 platforms. Players take on the role of Hen-House Harry, tasked with collecting twelve eggs scattered across each stage before time runs out. To aid in this, seed piles can be gathered to score points and temporarily halt the countdown. However, these seeds also attract patrolling hens that, when they consume the seeds, momentarily stop. Contact with a hen or falling off the level results in the loss of a life. The game features solid platforms, ladders, and elevating platforms that loop from the top to the bottom of the screen. Misjudging the lift’s cycle and hitting the screen’s top also results in a life loss.

Initially, players navigate eight levels under the supervision of a giant caged duck. Completing these levels once removes the hens, with Harry now avoiding a liberated duck that targets him. After the second round, both hens and the duck return, and subsequent rounds introduce more hens and increase the speed of both hens and the duck. Successfully clearing all forty levels moves the player to ‘level 41,’ essentially a repeat of level 33.

Players start with five lives, gaining an additional life for every 10,000 points scored.

Chuckie Egg was followed up, two years after its first release, with a sequel entitled Chuckie Egg 2.
