About Commodore 64 Knight Lore
Knight Lore is a 1984 action-adventure game developed by Ultimate Play The Game (later known as Rare). The game features the player character, Sabreman, who is afflicted with a werewolf curse. The player has forty days to navigate through a castle, collecting objects and ingredients to brew a cure for the curse.
The game is notable for its use of isometric graphics, which provided a pseudo-3D perspective and was innovative for its time. Each room in the castle is depicted in monochrome on its own screen, consisting of blocks to climb, obstacles to avoid, and puzzles to solve. This graphical style allowed for more complex and engaging gameplay, as players had to navigate the 3D environment to progress through the game.
Knight Lore’s combination of action, adventure, and puzzle-solving, along with its groundbreaking isometric graphics, made it a significant milestone in the history of video games and a highly influential title for future game developers.
