About Commodore 64 I, Ball

I, Ball is a vertically scrolling shooter game by Firebird, released in 1987. The protagonist, Iball, embarks on a mission to rescue his spherical colleagues from the clutches of the evil Terry Ball.

The game features 16 levels, and after completing every fourth level, one of the four friends is rescued. These friends include the lovable “Lover Ball” (with lipstick and ribbon loops), the fruity-healthy “Eddy Ball”, the globe-resembling “Glow Ball”, and the noble “No Ball” (with a crown). The game’s puns and humor suggest that it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Iball starts the game equipped with a basic “Bubble Gun” to defend against the numerous attackers. Throughout the game, Iball can upgrade his arsenal by collecting rotating disks, which also grant bonus points and extra time.

Extra time is crucial, as each level has a strict time limit of 50 seconds. Failure to complete a level within the given time results in the loss of one of the four available lives.

To complete a level, players must guide Iball through a course filled with normal and deadly, electrically charged obstacles within the time limit, ultimately reaching the finish line at the top of the screen. Remaining time is converted into bonus points. Extra lives can only be obtained by collecting bonus disks.
