About Commodore 64 Awesome SlamSibs Infinite
Awesome SlamSibs Infinite is a Super Smash Bros.–style platform fighter for the Commodore 64, made by Danish developer Søren Trautner Madsen and released on 25 October 2026 at the Zoo 2026 party. Up to two players knock C64 and Nintendo legends off six classic-game stages, with 15–20 moves per fighter squeezed out of a single-button joystick. It is a free, non-commercial fan tribute, and you can play it right here in your browser.

What is Awesome SlamSibs Infinite?
Think Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, rebuilt from scratch on an 8-bit breadbin. Instead of draining an energy bar, every hit raises your opponent’s damage percentage. The higher it climbs, the further they fly, until one well-timed smash attack sends them off the screen for good. You win by surviving, not by out-punching.
The game grew out of a technical challenge. Madsen had already ported Playdead’s LIMBO to the C64, and an online comment grumbled about its parallax scrolling. Madsen set out to prove that smooth, layered parallax was possible, and the fighting game was built around that routine. The manual even thanks “that bloke online” for the grumpy comment that started it all.
The project first surfaced as Awesome Slam Siblings in a 2022 preview and was renamed Awesome Slam Sibs Infinite for the 2023 preview. The full game, the 2026 release, adds a CPU opponent (added “begrudgingly”, says the manual), six stages and a complete scoring system.

Fighters
Every fighter is drawn with overlaid sprites for extra detail and has 15–20 unique moves:
- Turrikid: the armoured hero of Manfred Trenz’s Turrican, complete with his multiple-shot weapon.
- Rick D: the accident-prone adventurer from Rick Dangerous, fighting with his trademark bombs.
- Curvy: a pink puffball from Dream Land, deadly in the air.
- Ness: the EarthBound kid with a baseball bat and PSI powers.
- Plus Limboy, Pay-per-boy and Sir Boxershorts, who are best discovered in play.

Stages
Six arenas recreate classic games, each with parallax scrolling and its own music:
- Turrican’s World: mechanical platforms with Chris Hülsbeck’s Turrican music.
- Ghosts ‘n Goblins: graveyards and floating islands, with Capcom’s theme.
- Rick Dangerous: a trap-filled temple.
- Nebulus (Tower Toppler): a fight around the rotating tower, scored with Steve Turner’s Uridium tune and a guitar solo by Press Play On Tape.
- LIMBO: Madsen’s own monochrome C64 LIMBO world, played in silence.
- Battlefield: a clean arena with no hazards, where skill decides the winner.
How to play: controls
The game gets a full fighting-game move set out of one fire button. It tells a tap, a hold and a stick flick apart:

| Action | Input |
|---|---|
| Walk | Stick left / right |
| Jump | Stick up |
| Normal attack | Tap fire + stick direction (no direction = standing attack) |
| Special attack | Hold fire + stick direction |
| Smash attack | Flick the stick and tap fire at the same moment |
| Recovery jump | Hold fire + stick up |
| Shield (on ground) | Hold fire, no stick |
| Air dodge | Hold fire, no stick, in the air, then steer with the stick |
Playing in the browser: press START under the emulator. Joystick port 2 is on the cursor keys and port 1 is on W/A/S/D (see the keyboard mapping table below the emulator). A USB gamepad works best for flicks and smash attacks, and two gamepads make the perfect couch setup.

Scoring and lives
Against the CPU, each cleared level scores:
- Completion speed: 0–500 points.
- Level bonus: 100 × level number.
- Damage bonus: 1 point per % of damage dealt.
- Remaining lives: 100 points per stock left.
Lives do not refill between levels. Instead, you earn an extra life for every 1,000 points. High scores are saved to the cartridge.
Tips for winning
- Master one fighter first. With 15–20 moves each, depth beats variety.
- Keep moving. Standing still and trading blows loses. Use the platforms and control space.
- Shield and air-dodge. A well-timed dodge followed by a counter beats button mashing.
- Fight in the air. Launch with an up-smash, follow up and chain aerial attacks.
- Edge-guard. When your opponent is off-stage, intercept their recovery jump.
- Practise against the CPU, then invite a friend. The game was made for couch multiplayer.
Game manual
