About Commodore 64 Salamander
C64 Salamander is an engaging and action-packed game set in the Latiy system, a distant solar system inhabited by an ancient civilization capable of foreseeing the future. This civilization is threatened by a massive fleet of a hostile race known as the “Salamander.” As the pilot of a reconnaissance spaceship, your mission is to scout the enemy fleet and defend the Latiy system from total destruction.
Gameplay: C64 Salamander features four distinct levels, each with unique challenges and gameplay elements. The game alternates between horizontal and vertical scrolling, giving players a diverse and immersive experience.
Level 1 takes place in a horizontally scrolling asteroid vault filled with enemy ships and attack formations. Players must destroy entire formations to collect power-ups that enhance their ship and increase its speed. At the end of the level, a massive brain blocks the entrance to Level 2.
Level 2 scrolls vertically, taking players through a free space environment filled with hordes of enemy spaceships and indestructible meteorites. To progress, players must defeat a spider-like rotating spaceship with a single weak point: a destructible entrance on its lower side.
Level 3 returns to horizontal scrolling as players navigate a lava-filled corridor with deadly fountains erupting from the ground and ceiling. The level’s namesake, a giant snake-like creature, circles the area and can only be defeated by targeting its head.
Level 4, the final level, scrolls vertically through a technologically advanced facility. Players must face two intermediate bosses and navigate heavily fortified zones to reach the mega bomb intended to destroy the Latiy solar system. To complete the game successfully, players must destroy all four supports to detonate the bomb, eliminating the hostile fleet using their own weapon. Only then will players be rewarded with the true ending screen; otherwise, they will be met with a simple “Game over” message.
C64 Salamander offers thrilling gameplay, intense battles, and a diverse range of challenges, as players embark on a desperate mission to save an ancient civilization from annihilation.
