About Commodore 64 Blue Max

C64 Blue Max” features several zones, each concluding with a runway for landing. The initial zone displays a prominent river on the screen’s left and a wooded, grassy area on the right. In the second zone, the river transitions into land and roads occupied by tanks and enemy airbases. The final zone is an urban area with skyscrapers and bunkers, where the primary objective is their destruction.

Each zone presents a variety of targets for the player to destroy, including flak-firing warships in the river, tanks, bridges, assorted buildings, and enemy biplanes that sporadically attack from either in front or behind the player’s aircraft.

The player’s aircraft can sustain damage from enemy fire. Each hit leads to one of four malfunctions: damaged guns, bomb gear issues, fuel leakage, or reduced agility. The fifth hit results in the aircraft’s destruction. Additionally, the player can lose by crashing into the ground, an enemy aircraft, or exhausting the fuel supply.

After covering a specific distance, a beeping sound signals the proximity of a friendly airbase. Landing there refuels and repairs the aircraft, and replenishes bomb supplies.

Progression to the next zone requires destroying specific targets: flashing vehicles and planes, and structures and bridges marked with a flashing cross. Failure to destroy enough special targets results in repeating the same zone upon takeoff.

The ultimate objective is to bomb three bunkers in the heavily fortified city in the final zone, and then land at the airfield at the stage’s end. The game concludes upon either completing the mission or perishing, with the player receiving a numerical rank based on their performance.
