About Commodore 64 Green Beret
Green Beret, also known as Rush’n Attack in North America, is a side-scrolling action arcade game developed by Irem in 1980 and later by Konami in 1985. The game puts the player in control of an American soldier tasked with navigating through four distinct levels (Missile, Harbour, Bridge, and Prison Camp) to rescue prisoners of war.
The gameplay involves moving from left to right and climbing up and down ladders to reach higher platforms. The player’s character can lie down, jump, and climb ladders to avoid obstacles and enemies. Touching an enemy results in the loss of a life, and with a high difficulty level, it is essential for players to progress through the levels as quickly as possible.
Enemies continually spawn from the left and right sides of the screen, and if the player stays in one spot for too long, a jet will appear and drop bombs on their location. To mitigate this, the game features checkpoints throughout each level, so players do not always have to restart from the beginning upon losing a life. Points are awarded for defeating enemies, and for every 25,000 points, the player earns an extra life.
Green Beret’s challenging gameplay and high difficulty made it a popular title in arcades and helped establish it as a classic in the side-scrolling action genre.
