About Commodore 64 Test Drive
Test Drive, published by Accolade, is a racing simulation game that immerses players in the world of illegal street racing. The objective is straightforward: complete the five stages as quickly as possible. Before embarking on your “test drive,” you must choose from one of five iconic cars: Lotus Esprit, Lamborghini Countach, Porsche 911, Ferrari Testarossa, or Chevrolet Corvette. Each car boasts unique appearances and handling attributes, and all require manual gear shifting.
To prevent time-consuming speeding tickets, players must monitor their radar detectors or maintain speeds of at least 120 mph. However, caution is necessary when navigating sharp turns riddled with potholes and managing oncoming traffic on the left side of the road. Collisions are easily caused by obstacles such as cliffs on the right and ravines on the left, which may result in a shattered windshield, loss of a life, and time spent accelerating again.
Between each stage, players can catch their breath or stretch their legs as their gas tanks are refilled and their racing time, average speed, and awarded points are displayed. Although the first stage is relatively short and simple, subsequent stages become increasingly challenging, with tighter turns and increased radar detector activity in conjunction with heavy traffic to keep players focused and engaged.
